SUMMARY:Anchoring Loss and Damage in Enhanced Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC)
DESCRIPTION:Very few of the original NDCs submitted in 2015 included loss and damage. The countries that did include L&D were those that were the most vulnerable to climate impacts such as small island developing states from sea level rise and African countries facing increasing drought. In 2020 the majority of the NDCs are expected to be updated to capture increased ambition in preparation for COP26. As part of this process and to make the NDCs more inclusive loss and damage the third pillar of the Paris Agreement must be included. \nPractical Action and WWF have just produced a guidance document to help national NDC revision processes to consider how loss and damage could be included in the process. \nThis session will explore how and why loss and damage is and isn’t at the center of different governments NDC thinking. It will explore different perspective on the inclusion of loss and damage in the enhanced NDCs and share ideas how societies can be supported to think about loss and damage thus resulting in a more holistic and inclusive approach to climate action. \nSpeakers include: \n– Dr. San Win\, Deputy Director\, Climate Change Division\, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation\, Myanmar\n– Sanjay Vashist\, Director\, Climate Action Network South Asia\n– Dr. Elisa Calliari\, Research Associate\, Department of Political Science\, University College London\n– Dr. Erin Roberts\, Climate Leadership Initiative\n– Sandeep Chamling Rai\, Senior Advisor\, WWF International Climate & Energy\n– Colin McQuistan\, Head of Climate and Resilience\, Practical Action (Moderator) \n  \nRegistration Link: https://wwf.panda.org/our_work/our_focus/climate_and_energy_practice/wwf_london_climate_action_week_2020/ \n
